Night time skiing activity is possible at Daemyung Vivaldi Park Ski World as it was the first ski resort in Korea to offer night time skiing. Yongpyong Ski Resort bears the first ski resort in Korea to offer modern facilities. The slopes of Yongpyong see an average annual snowfall of 250 centimetres, meaning that this excellent facility can stay open slightly longer than the standard ski season. The Effect of K-Drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’ on Korea Tourism

Due to the drama immense popularity across the globe, the filming locations used for the drama have been attracting fans from all over the world. In conjunction with this huge impact to Korea tourism, major locations have been developed as tourist attractions, aiming to give the visitors a chance to experience by themselves the real filming locations that were featured in the drama.


One of the major filming locations for the ‘Descendants of the Sun’ drama is Hanbo Coal Mine, which is located in Taebaek City, Gangwon. It was a major coal mine which led the coal industry of Korea in ’80-90’s. This venue was featured in the most part of the drama as the old medical center as well as the Urk military base. Korea Tourism Organization and Taebaek City have been rebuilding the set after it has been torn down right after the drama completion for public visit.

Located in Jeongseon, Gangwon, Samtan Art Mine which was used as one of the filming locations for the drama was an abandoned mine before. It has been transformed into a cultural and art complex for public visit. In particular, the old mine and the shower room were mainly used as the filming locations. Fans can even check out the room that was used by the main actor, Song Joong Ki during his stay at Samtan Art Mine.
