Jeonju Bibimbap Festival 2019

Jeonju, located in the Jeollabuk-do province is well known for its preservation of Korea traditional culture especially in terms of food, house designs, art skills that have passed down from one generation to another and now visitors can learn through some workshop programs. Visitors can also rent traditional Korean clothing named “hanbok” and elegantly walk along the long rows of hanok (traditional Korean residence) at Jeonju Hanok Village.


From 9 until 12 October 2019 (4 days), a food festival named Jeonju Bibimbap Festival will be held in the vicinity of Hyanggyo in Jeonju Hanok Village. Bibimbap (Korean mixed rice with meat and assorted vegetables) is one of the definitive Korean dishes in the eyes of both Koreans and international enthusiasts. Jeonju is very famous for its Kongnamul-bibimbap (rice with soybean sprouts), an elaborate dish requiring approximately 30 different ingredients.

1. 35-dong village Bibimbap
Date: 9 Oct (Wed) @ 3:00 pm
Location: Jeonju Cheonseo-ro in front of National Intangible Heritage Center
Highlight: Free tasting of diverse types of Bibimbap for the spectators.


2. Let’s find the Bibimbap!
Date: 9 Oct (Wed) & 12 Oct (Sat) @ 10:30 am & 4:30 pm
Location: Jeonju Cheonseo-ro
Highlight: Find hidden Bibimbap ingredients through Korean traditional games such as Throw the Tuho, Biseok Chigi (stone hitting game), etc.


3. Huddle together for Bibimbap
Date: 10 Oct (Thu) & 11 Oct (Fri) @ 11:00 am
Location: Jeonju Hyanggyo Cultural Center
Highlight: Group reservation for children’s experiential programs.


4. Exciting cooking show
Date: 3 Oct (Wed) until 12 Oct (Sat) @ 10:00 am
Location: Jeonju Hyanggyo Cultural Center
Highlight: Cooking experience by looking, touching and feeling.


5. Hanok village parade
Date: 9 Oct (Wed) & 12 Oct (Sat) @ 2:00 pm
Location: Gyeonggijeon Hall
Highlight: Chitadae, Nanta team, Hanbok parade, Pungmul band, Bibimbap costume play parade.


6. Let’s huddle with the art
Date: 9 Oct (Wed) & 12 Oct (Sat)
Location: Seohakdong Art Village
Highlight: Free market of handicraft artists’ products
