Incentive Fam Trip May 2018 (Gyeonggi-Seoul-Gangwon-Incheon)

Last October 2016, KTO KL has organized an exciting incentive fam trip special for travel agents that are specialized in Incentive/MICE tour. We are fortunate to have 20 representatives from various travel agencies across Malaysia to come with us to Korea for inspection at various unique locations that would be great for Malaysian incentive groups.

The objectives of this trip are to let travel agencies experience the teambuilding activities and first-hand experience for their product planning and to inspect new attractions and programs especially in Gyeonggi, Seoul, Gangwon, and Incheon for incentive groups.

Camp Greaves Military Experience

Upon arrival on 8th October, we headed right away to Paju to visit Camp Greaves DMZ. The military base which turned youth hostel has become a tourist attraction for Korean drama lovers due to the popularity of the KBS drama, ‘Descendants of the Sun’. The attraction provides several experience programs for tourist groups such as army suits wearing experience, dog tag making, and photo taking with the background of the scenes from the Korean drama. We had a really great time trying out the army outfit and taking photos with the military props in their studio.

Hanhwa Aqua Planet Ilsan

We visited the Hanhwa Aquarium for our next inspection. The four-story building boasts a capacity of 4,300 liters of water tank with 25,000 sea and wildlife creatures in the 14,600 square meters building. It is a perfect unique venue for incentive group as they have space for indoor and outdoor for the gala dinner and reception. The location is great for visitors as well as it is close to Seoul.

ONEMOUNT Theme Park

Well known as a unique venue for incentive groups, we visited ONEMOUNT attraction to inspect the whole venue and the snow park facility. The snow park features a Santa Village with a North European concept, unique sledding like dog sleds, and snow sledding. The response from participants was quite positive as the attraction can provide winter experience all year round as well as outdoor water park during the summer time.

Incheon pear picking experience

Fruit picking experience is one of the fun activities for all tour groups when they travel to Korea. We got the experience the gather the pear at the orchard and extensive explanation was provided as well by the owner regarding the benefits and activities for tour groups that they had in the past. The participants definitely enjoyed the hands-on experience and the flavorful taste of Korean pear.

Samsung Innovation Museum

We visited the museum in the Samsung Electronics Corporation complex which located in Suwon city. We learned a lot about the history and development of technologies from decades ago. English guided tour is available for foreign tourist and admission is free with the condition of pre-booking of the session. They also introduced their latest products equipped with the cutting edge technology and shown us the video of the possible future technology. Overall, all participants were satisfied with the visit to the Samsung Innovation Museum.

K-Style Hub

We visited our tourist information center on the first day to go on tour at the new facility and to receive the explanation regarding the activities that they organized there. They had set up the VR Corner on the second level for the tourists to experience the virtual tour of Korea and Korean Food Exhibition Hall. Apart from that, we were given a tour of their medical tourism section for medical analysis experience another floor to their Korean cooking class facility as well.  It is convenient for incentive groups to visit here as the location is nicely located nearby the Cheongyecheon Stream and they can learn more about Korea through this facility.

Traditional Mask Making Experience at Korea House

Korea House is one of participants’ favorite throughout the fam trip since it is a traditional Korean style unique venue with various experience programs provided. We inspected the venue indoor and outdoor space and hall, and also try out the experience program there. Our land operator has booked the traditional mask making and the classroom can nicely fit 45 pax at one time. It took around one hour and 20 minutes to finish up the session and the participants were able to bring the handmade traditional mask home.

Namsan Hanok Village

Located at a walking distance from Korea House, we visited Namsan Hanok Village for a quick cultural sightseeing. We visited the teahouse there to try out Korean Yuja tea while being absorbed in the timeless beauty of the Korean traditional houses.

Hanbok experience at Hanboknam

We visited the Bukchon Hanok Village area to visit Hanboknam company which specializes in hanbok wearing experience. We let the participants try out the hanbok and arranged a studio photo shoot as well. After that, they were given free time to roam around the area in their hanbok and take pictures on their own which was quite nice with the traditional village background. Overall, the response was good although we received the slight complaint of the crowded and small space is not suitable for a group of 25 pax and above.

Team-building activity at Grevin Wax Museum

We have arranged a team building activity for our fam trip participants and this time it was held at the Grevin Wax Museum. They were divided into 5 groups and all of the groups were given a mission to complete at the Wax Museum. It was an indeed good experience for the travel agencies for them to think of team building activities for their corporate clients. Grevin Wax Museum is a great unique venue too as they can provide a banquet for an event there.

Traditional Market Tour and Korean Cooking Class at OME Cooking Lab

We pretty much received a great positive feedback on this activity, where the director of the OME Cooking Lab herself provided us a guided tour to the traditional market which is the Gyeongdong Market located in Seoul. We were brought to several ginseng shops and tried out the herbal tea while listening to the explanation about the market and the items that they sell here. From there, we started to purchase some cooking ingredients for our cooking class session later with the instruction of director cum cooking class instructor. We were brought to a contemporary venue space inside the market that can fit maximum 55 pax at one time. The instructor taught the participants to cook several Korean dishes such as soybean paste stew, kimchi pajeon, spicy stir fry chicken, and we learn to make our own kimchi too. We were informed that they could cater meals for Muslim groups as well which is great since half of the incentive groups from Malaysia have 80% Muslims. Although the total session of tour and cooking class took around 3 hours, it was indeed a well spent and pleasant learning experience for our fam trip participants to share with their clients.

Jeongseon Railbike

We headed to Gangwon province to continue with our fam trip journey and our first stop was the Jeongseon Railbike. The rail bike experience provides us with a beautiful nature view of mountainous Jeongseon area. Overall, it was a good outdoor experience for them.

Alpensia Resort

We had an inspection at the Alpensia Resort Convention Center to inspect the grand ballroom and halls available there for gala dinner and meeting purposes. The grand ballroom was spacious enough to accommodate 2,000 people at one time. We were informed by the manager that they can organize the function outdoor as well as they have space for outdoor events. We could not manage to inspect the ski facility due to insufficient time.

Pizza and ice-cream making at Uiyaji Wind Village

We went to Uiyaji Wind Village the next day to experience pizza and ice-cream making for incentive groups. Although most of the agencies are familiar with this place, it was still nice to let them experience hands-on activity there and they did find the session enjoyable.

Gyeongwonjae Ambassador Incheon Hotel

We were invited for a dinner session here with Incheon MICE Bureau and followed by inspection of the venue hall and the classy traditional style hotel. Feedback received was good and they mentioned the reasonable rate despite being a luxurious hotel.

BMW Driving Center

We visited this attraction which located 10 minutes from Incheon International Airport. They have around 15 driving experience program and they offer six types of track courses where the customer can enjoy systematic and professional driving. We were supposed to be there for a driving experience but unfortunately, due to time limitation, we were only provided with a guided tour inside the facility and their track course. The tour was great but it would have been better if they could experience driving on the course track.

Overall, the inspection trip has been fruitful to all of us to create good content for incentive travel planning in Korea. We would like to thanks those who have been assisting with this trip and hope that all participants had a great time visiting and experiencing exciting cultural and team-building activities in Korea!
