Halal Restaurant Week Korea
After a successful launch last year, Korea is preparing for its second Halal Restaurant Week campaign, which is starting from 1 September to 31 October 2017. The event is an initiative to showcase Korea as a Muslim-friendly destination, attracting more Muslim travelers from around the world.
Contrary to its name, the Halal Restaurant Week is actually a two-month long campaign organized by Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) to provide Muslim tourists with necessary information about Halal and Muslim-friendly restaurants across the country, as well as various events and benefits for the visitors.
Coupon booklets are distributed to Muslims during the event at frequently visited destinations including Incheon International Airport, Itaewon, and etc. This year, coupon booklets will be made available online as well.
The booklet and the official website (www.hrwkorea.or.kr) contain information about more than a 100 appointed Muslim-friendly or Halal restaurants located in various parts of Korea, along with other attractive discount offers. This year’s booklet has quite a number of discount coupons available for various attractions and activities such as aquariums, beeswax museums, perfume-making experience, Hanbok rental, Halal cosmetic shops, duty-free shops and more.
Participating restaurants will be classified into 4 categories:
|Restaurants certified by an accredited halal certification agency such as Korea Muslim Federation(KMF).||All foods are halal. Restaurants are certified as halal by Muslim restaurant owners themselves.|
|Some halal dishes are provided. Alcohol may be sold.||Restaurants that do not offer a halal menu but do not use pork. Alcohol may be sold.|
