Korean Cooking Class – 23 January 2018 (Tuesday)

Love to eat Korean food? How about learning how to cook your favorite Korean food?

Korea Plaza offers a Free Korean cooking class to our Kaki Korea Club members (Click HERE to register for a Kaki Korea Club account) on every second and fourth Tuesday of a month. Depending on the number of participants, you will get the opportunity to experience a “hands-on session” on how to make the dishes, the recipe and have a try on the taste yourself.

1. Yukgaejang (육개장)

Yukgaejang or spicy beef soup is a spicy, soup-like Korean dish made from shredded beef with scallions and other ingredients, which are simmered together for a long time. It is a variety of gomguk, or thick soup, which was formerly served in Korean royal court cuisine. It is believed to be healthful and is popular due to its hot and spicy nature.

In addition to shredded beef, scallions, and water, the dish generally also includes bean sprouts, gosari (bracken fern), torandae (taro stems), sliced onion, dangmyeon (sweet potato noodles), chili powder, garlic, perilla seeds (also called wild sesame seeds), soy sauce, oil (sesame oil and/or vegetable oil), black pepper, and salt. Chili oil may also be used. Yukgaejang is generally served with a bowl of rice and kimchi.

 

2. Tuna Kimchi Wrapped Rice Roll (참치김치 쌈밥)

Koreans make wraps (ssam 쌈) with all kinds of fresh and cooked leafy vegetables — lettuce, perilla leaves, zucchini leaves and cabbages, to name a few. Kimchi is no exception. This menu is rice wrapped in kimchi. To use kimchi as a wrap, simply squeeze out the liquid from the kimchi. You can rinse in water first and then squeeze for a milder taste, especially if your kimchi is very sour. Kimchi can be served separately so each person can make his/her own wraps at the table, or you can serve pre-wrapped as this recipe shows.

  3. An email will be sent out automatically once your registration has been received.
  4. Show your IC and email to our staff on the actual date of the class.
