2019 ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit
The 2019 ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit will take place in Busan from November 25 – 26 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the dialogue relationships between Korea and ASEAN countries. In conjunction with this meeting, the 1st Mekong-Republic of Korea Summit will also be held on Wednesday, November 27. This year’s event is the first international summit gathering that Korea is hosting under the Moon Jae-in administration.
ASEAN stands for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the political and economic regional grouping founded in 1967 to jointly address regional issues. It consists of ten member countries: Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand & Vietnam. The integration is underpinned by respect for diversity and a young population, which is expected to serve as the main driver of the region’s further growth. Visit the official website to learn more about this international summit.
Korea hosted two special summits with ASEAN in Jeju and Busan in 2009 and 2014, respectively, and the third special summit will be held in Busan this year. This makes Korea the first nation to host all of the three special summits in its own country with ASEAN out of all the countries that have a dialogue relationship with the regional body, which is a testament to ASEAN’s trust in and support of Korea’s commitment to cooperation with the region.
The 1st Mekong-Republic of KOREA Summit will be the first summit-level meeting between Korea and the Mekong region, a result of continued cooperation which began in 2011 when a ministerial meeting took place between the two. The summit will serve as a foundation to further cooperation toward mutual growth with Mekong countries, which are some of the fastest growing regions of ASEAN.
KTO Media Fam Trip in Early November
In KTO recent media fam trip, we brought 3 pairs of Malaysian YouTubers (The Grim Film, 碰碰PongPong & Fu Love) and a Blogger (Placesandfoods.com) to visit BEXCO in Centum City, Haeundae-gu, Busan, which is the venue of ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit. They were very excited to be there where Malaysia leaders will be discussing and developing plans for youth empowerment, education, and employment with other ASEAN leaders.
